What Is Wrong With Synthetic Nutritional Supplements?

Published by Author in category Health and Fitness | Leave a Comment

Unfortunately, today most of the nutritional supplements and vitamins that are available on the market, even in the most “health” food shops, are not natural. In fact, the majority of them are synthetic and derived in a laboratory even if they are marked as “natural”. So, today there is a need to determine what ‘synthetic’ nutritional supplements mean in fact and what is wrong with them.

First of all, it is needed to understand some terms and how they are commonly used today. These terms are ‘synthetic’, ‘crystalline’ and ‘natural’ vitamins. When we use ‘crystalline’ in order to describe vitamins, it means that a food was used as its original source, but then some chemicals like solvents were used in order to turn them into a pure crystalline vitamins. As a rule, all other co-factors that were with that vitamin in the natural substance are eliminated during the process. So, crystalline vitamins are not natural ones.

When the vitamin is called synthetic one, it means that it has been fabricated in a lab by building the exact structure of the crystalline molecule. In the most cases, these vitamins are made with adding some toxic substances. In the chemical aspect, there is no actual difference between crystalline and synthetically derived vitamins. A nice example of synthetic vitamins is vitamins B which are traditionally fabricated from petrochemicals. The other example is that of ascorbic acid that a lot of people think is vitamin C. ascorbic acid is made in laboratory way as well and very often from a white sugar. Natural vitamin C is in fact a complex of different factors that includes the ascorbic acid.

In fact, natural vitamins have to be 100 per cent whole food based without adding any synthetics. Today you have to be especially careful choosing nutritional supplements and vitamin as manufacturers of these products know that people prefer ‘natural’ vitamins and they often mention it on the label of their products and the most honest of them even could use a little bit of a whole food. But, it does not make those vitamins safe and effective.

Synthetic nutritional supplements do not supply your body with all the co-factors or other nutrients that are important for your body in order to take the whole advantages of that supplement. Since these co-factors are missed, you will need to take them from other source in order to make the synthetic nutritional supplements work. It could create some serious shortages and could be a reason for other problems occur.

When you take synthetic nutritional supplements it is seen by the body as more like taking a drug than taking an obvious nutrient. It is probably why there are studies showing the problems associated with some certain vitamins in high dosages like beta carotene that could cause cancer.
